Why was Lincoln at Gettysburg (what event was taking place)?

He was there to deliver the Gettysburg address, which was that the Union army had defeated the Confederate army. Hope this helps.

Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address

just before that was the battle of Gettysburg, and since the US won, Lincoln knew the Union had the upper hand in the war
