The correct option is this: HE HAS A CRUEL STREAK THAT SURFACES OCCASIONALLY.
Doodle was very sick and everybody thought that he is not going to survive it. Because of this, a coffin had already been bought for him even though he was still alive. Doodle disappointed everyone by refusing to die and the coffin was put away. But the narrator decided to show the coffin to Doodle one day in order to spite him. The narrator normally exhibits this kind of behavior when his cruel side comes to the surface.
