To solve for this.

\mathrm{Subtract\:}5\mathrm{\:from\:both\:sides} \ \textgreater \ -6x+5-5=17-5 \ \textgreater \ -6x=12

\mathrm{Divide\:both\:sides\:by\:}-6 \ \textgreater \ (-6x)/(-6)=(12)/(-6) \ \textgreater \ Simplify \ \textgreater \ x=-2

Hope this helps!

-6x + 5 = 17
isolate the x, first subtract 5 from both sides
-6x + 5 (-5) = 17 (-5)
-6x = 12
Then divide -6 from both sides
-6x(/-6) = 12(/-6)
Answer
x = -2

hope this helps
