5x + 3x = 8x
8x + 2
FINAL ANSWER: 8x + 2
You would add 5x and 3x because they are like terms. The 2 is just a regular number, it doesn’t have a variable along with it.

5x + 2 + 3x
add same types of numbers
5x + 3x + 2
8x + 2
find x
8x + 2 = 0
8x + 2 (-2) = 0 (-2)
8x = -2
8x/8 = -2/8
x = -1/4
hope this helps
