'To lie' is an infinitive.
'Lay' is the past.
'Lain' is the past participle.

To lie is an infinitive because it is describing the action being done.
Lain is past participle because it is talking about the action done in the past
Lay is past because the way it is phrased as "lay" would make it in the past.
