Hitler wanted to prevent a two front war, thus he signed a nonaggression pact with the USSR. When he had conquered France, he then reopened hostilities with the Soviet Union.

The correct answer is “Hitler wanted to prevent a two-front war”.

The Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact was signed in 1939 and created a mutual promise by both leaders that neither would attack the other. This was very interesting for Germany because it removed the threat of a war with the Soviets, avoiding this way, a two-front war. Germany could invade Poland freely without force and prepare for the consequences of the invasion later.
