Say the first trip was x.
The second trip would be 2x-4.
The third would be 2(2x-4) = 4x-8
The forth would be 3x+18

The total of these would be x + 2x - 4 + 4x - 8 + 3x + 18
This can be simplified to 10x + 6

This means that 10x+6 = 426
Minus 6 from both sides
10x = 420
Divide both sides by 10
x = 42

Trip 1 = x = 42km
Trip 2 = 2x-4 = 84-4 = 80km
Trip 3 = 4x-8 = 168-8 = 160km
Trip 4 = 3x+18 = 126+18 = 144km
