-2x - 4 + 4 + 5x = 8 + 4
-2x + 5x = 12
3x = 12
x = 4

Combine like terms (add the 5x to the -2x to get 3x). Move the -4 to the other side to get 3x= 12. Divide both sides by 3 to get x=4
