During the late 19th century, employers used two tactics against works: yellow-dog contracts and blacklisting. Yellow dog contracts is an agreement between the worker and employer where the worker agrees to certain conditions of employment as well as to not be a member of any labor union. Blacklisting was spreading the word of workers who employers wouldn't want to work with and making them basically unhirable.
