Jordan bought 9 pounds of fruit. He paid $2.39 a pound for 5 pounds. He paid $1.99 a pound for the rest. How much did Jordan spend on fruit? (please let me know how you did it)

so he bought 9 lbs of fruit

he paid 2.39 a lb for 5 lbs.....thats 2.39 * 5 = 11.95
and now he has (9 - 5) = 4 lbs remaining...that he paid 1.99 per lb....thats is (1.99 * 4) = 7.96

for a total of : 11.95 + 7.96 = 19.91 <==

u can basically set it up like this : total cost = 2.39(5) + 1.99(4)

5 pounds worth cost 2.39

9 - 5 = 4

the last 4 pounds cost 1.99

so you get this equation: 5(2.39) + 4(1.99)

5 x 2.39 = 11.95
4 x 1.99 = 7.96
11.95 + 7.96 = 19.91
