Tim earns $12 per hour as head lifeguard at Sammy's Swim Park. As a first year lifeguard Jack earns 30% less than Tim, and as a second year lifeguard Jim earns $1 more per hour than Jack. Which expression represents how much Jim earns? (h represents hours)

Answer:

9.4

Explanation:

Tim 12h Jack 12(1.0 - 0.30)h Jim 12(1.0 - 0.30)h + 1h thus, Jim earns 12(1.0 - 0.30)h + 1h 12(0.70)h + 1h 8.4h + 1h 9.4h

Tim = 12
Jack 1st = 12 - (12 x 0.30)

second year
Jim = 1 + x
Jack = x

12 - (12 x 0.30) =
12 - 3.6 = 8.4
Jack = $8.4 per hour

Tim = 8.4 + 1
Tim = $9.4 per hour
