Steel changed Americans' lives since it made possible to build skyscrapers, railroads, suspension, as well as bridges.

The history of the modern steel industry started in the late 1850s; steel has became a staple of the world's industrial economy.

From 1875 to 1920 American steel production increased from 380,000 tons to 60 million tons annually, becoming the U.S. the world leader.

This outsanding American growth lied on solid technological foundations and the continuous rapid expansion of urban infrastructures, office buildings, factories, railroads, bridges and other sectors that increasingly demanded steel.
