Marina and her mother each have a salad and a drink for lunch at a restaurant. A salad costs $4.75 and a drink costs $1.65. Maria's mother leaves a 15% tip. What is the amount of the tip?

You can put this into an equation to make it easier.

$4.75 + $1.65 = $6.4

If Maria's mother left 15% tip, then we change the percentage which would be equal to 0.15

So, we can use $6.4 * 0.15 = t
t = being the amount she left for tip.

So, you multiply $6.4 times 0.15 which would give you $0.96 or 96 cents.
So, she left 96 cents for tip.

I hope this helps.
