I think a mixture of new technology and an increased patient load affects the current nurse most. They are constantly having to be trained on new, bigger, better technology in order to deliver the most up-to-date care. Their patient load certainly hasn't decreased over the years. Both of these aspects culminate in a huge strain on their time, as well as fatigue while trying to deliver optimal care.
