Benzodiazepines or
Lorazepam but Lorazepam appears to be the safest empiric choice.

Lorazepam. While benzodiazepines are typically the first line of defense for alcohol withdrawal symptoms, only some of them are unaffected by age and liver disease. Lorazepam is the best choice in this scenario.
