Final answer:

Jacob experiences cognitive dissonance due to his promotion requiring a move, which conflicts with his reluctance to relocate, creating an inner conflict.

Step-by-step explanation:

Jacob's situation of being excited about a promotion but reluctant to move will create a form of inner conflict known as cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance occurs when a person holds contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values, and is typically experienced as psychological stress when they participate in an action that goes against one or more of these beliefs, ideas, or values. In Jacob's case, his excitement about the job promotion conflicts with his reluctance to relocate, leading to discomfort and stress as he attempts to reconcile these opposing feelings.

Relocating to another state brings with it all sorts of complications and conflicts. Just because he got a promotion it does not mean he will make more money. Jacob has to determine if by moving to this state his cost of living rises. There is also the factor of family and friends. Where Jacob now resides, he knows the ins and outs, maybe has friends who support him, maybe family. Moving to another state means starting over and losing that support structure. If he is in a romantic relationship, this could very well end it since it is not easy for people to uproot and move. Therefore there are financial and emotional conflicts to moving.
