'Retaining water' can defined as to retain or keep water in the body for a longer time, while 'acquiring water' is a process to obtain water, such as by drinking. Desert animals face water scarcity as desert climate shows hot and dry climate. They acquire most of necessary water from their food, such as from succulent seeds or plants, blood or other body tissues of prey. Desert animals show various mechanisms to prevent water loss from body and to retain water for longer time. These mechanisms involve excretion of concentrate urine (with less water) and low perspiration, due to no or less sweat glands.

A desert is an area where there is very little amount of water available.Due scarcity of water it is very difficult for plants and animals to survive. Only those animals which need little amount of water can survive in the desert

During the day, desert animals hide themselves in the bushes, whenever there is rain , the animals store water in their bodies. The loss of water from sweat and urine among these animals is minute. Most animals get water from the plants they eat or from the blood of their target/victim
