1. Substitute 7 with 4
3x - 4(4) = 65
3x - 16 = 65

2. Solve
3x - 16 = 65
+16 +16
3x = 81
3 3
x = 27

3. Check (Optional)
3(27) - 4(4) = 65
81 - 16 = 65
65 = 65
