John locke. Thomas Jefferson got this idea from the natural rights theory from John Locke which states that we have natural born rights (from our creator) that can't be taken away.

I believe, the enlightment idea is the natural rights.
The natural rights refers to the right that we acquired ever since we born which even authorities couldn't upperhand. (such as the right to live)
The natural right in united states are protected under the first 10 amendments of united states constitution.
