After the Revolution for the American Independence in 1776, the thirteen American states signed the Articles of Confederation which represented the first constitutional agreement as a symbol of unity among the new states. One of the main points under the Articles of Confederation was that each state was granted one vote in Congress regardless the state size, since all the states were considered equals. As a result, the Articles of Confederation became the ruling document in the US.
