Jerry and Katja are running in a race. Jerry runs really fast for a while. Then, he stops to catch his breath. After he has rested, he runs really fast again until the end of the race. Katja runs slower than Jerry, but runs at the same pace the whole race.

In two or more complete sentences, explain which line on the graph models Jerry and which line models Katja. Include an explanation for the intersection point.

Katja would be the straight line and joels line would show sections that stop going up it would intersect at some point because katja is constantly moving while joel takes breaks in-between

Hope this helps!! :))

Answer:

Jerry would be the purple line on the graph.

We can see that he goes faster than Katja as the gradient is greater than katja's until he stops for a period of time and that's why we see that as time passes, the distance doesn't go up until he starts running at a faster pace than Katja.

Katja is the orange line on the graph, where she is moving at a slower constant pace and that's why the gradient of the line is less steep. However, she never stops as the distance always goes up as the time increases.

The intersection point is the moment and distance where Katja surpasses Jerry.
