The excerpt below comes from a Supreme Court decision issued in 1954: "We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal' has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are, by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment."Which Civil Rights leader is identified with this decision?

Thurgood Marshall

Marshall was a civil-rights attorney, called by many "Mr. Civil Rights". As head of the NAACP, he won many important cases that fought for African American civil rights involving issues such as discriminatory housing practices, voting rights and racial segregation in public schools. The passage provided is referring to the Brown v. Board of Education case (1954), which is also one of Marshall's greatest victories as the Supreme Court finally abolished the racial segregation in the United States.
