Answer:

The water level dropped 0.0227 inches each hour.

Explanation:

This question can be solved using a rule of three.

Between 10 pm and 7:10 am the water level in a swimming pool decreased by 5/24 inches.

Between 10 pm and 7:10 am, there are 12 - 10 = 2 + 7 - 0 = 9 hours and 10 - 0 = 10 minutes.

So 9*60 + 10 = 550 minutes.

In 550 minutes, the water level decreased by 5/24 = 0.2083 inches. How much did it decrease per 60 minutes?

60 minutes - x inches

550 minutes - 0.2083 inches

550x = 60*0.2083

x = 60*0.2083/550

x = 0.0227

The water level dropped 0.0227 inches each hour.
