The period was called the Second Reconstruction. Grassroots activism placed pressure upon the Presidents of that era, Congress and the judicial system to bring in changes regarding civil rights. Occurred through either peaceful or violent protests and attacks conducted by the Black Panther Party. It helped swing public opinion that helped provide progressive decisions and laws to be created and delivered.
