Sharecropping was one of the economic approaches to farming that gave freed slaves access to land. What other advantage did it provide?

it gave them some access to financial independence but they still relied heavily on the former slave owners for support.

Slaves were under a different set of laws when sharecropping, they could keep some profit of the crops and were somewhat considered “free”
