We can solve this problem by applying the rule of three:

\begin{gathered} 40\text{ dollars ------100\%} \\ 15\text{ dollars ------ x} \end{gathered}

hence,

x=((15)(100))/(40)

and it yields

x=(1500)/(40)

which result in x= 37.5. It means that 15 dollars corresponds to 37.5%
