For carlees birthday her mother is baking cupcakes for her 12 friends at daycare. the recipe calls for

cups of flour. this recipe makes

2 (1)/(2) dozen \: cupcakes
carlees mother only has 1 cup of flour. is there enough flour for each of her friends to get a cupcake

You can solve this problem by simply setting up a proportion for the flour and cupcakes:So… 3.5/30 = 1/x (30 since = 12 pieces is equal to 1 dozen, 24 + 6 = 30) Then…If x ≥ 12, then everyone can eat cupcakes. Afterwards…Cross-multiply to get 3.5x = 30. So, x = 8.5. Therefore, there isn't enough cupcakes for everyone.
