1. Solve the absolute value equation, if possible.  If there is no solution, explain why.

| 5x + 13| = -7

An absolute value of any real number is never negative.

The number on the right side, -7, is a negative number.

As I just stated, the absolute value can never be negative.

Since -7 is a negative number, there is no solution to this equation.

Every absolute value MUST be 0 or greater (positive); thus, | 5x + 13| = -7 has no solution due to the - number on the right.
