The best answer is it appealed to their emotions.

Propaganda, by its very nature, generally includes an emotional appeal. The Office of War Information appealed to the emotions of citizens, inspiring them to join the war effort in any way possible in order to defeat evil, keep Americans abroad safe, and do their patriotic duty.
