Eliza and Jamie are making cupcakes for a bake sale at school. Eliza needs 2one third c of flour for her recipe and Jamie needs 1three-fourths c for her recipe. They have 4 c of flour. Do they have enough flour for both recipes? Explain.

To know if the have enough flour, we just need to sum both amounts, but before that, we need to transform all mixed numbers into fractions


2(1)/(3)= (7)/(3)


1(3)/(4)=(7)/(4)

Now, we sum


(7)/(3)+(7)/(4)=(28+21)/(12)=(49)/(12)\approx 4.08

Therefore, the just have enough flour to do their recipes, because they need 4.08 c of flour approximately, and they have 4 c of flour.
