We must find the inverse function of f(x)=-x-16.

First, replace f(x) by y in order to make the process easier:

y=-x-16

Nect, replace every x with a y and every y with an x:

x=-y-16

Next, solve for y. Then, in our case, we must move -16 to the left hand side as +16. It yields,

x+16=-y

and multiply by -1 both sides in order to find y :

\begin{gathered} -x-16=y \\ \text{which is equivalent to} \\ y=-x-16 \end{gathered}

Finally, replace y by f^(-1), which gives:

f^(-1)(x)=-x-16
