The main reason that encouraged Progressives to fight for reform was the perception of injustice in society. Progressives were worried about the ways in which many people lived. They were concerned about children not receiving an education and working in dangerous environments, poor people being marginalized, sick people dying for lack of medical care, etc. They believed it was the responsibility of government, as well as society at large to create better laws and institutions that would address all of these social problems.
