2. Egypt and the Suez Canal
3. Italy was still mad about losing Ethiopia

The alliance between Germany, Italy, and Japan during World War II is also known as the Axis. The North of Africa was the second most important front of the war for the Axis because it wanted to control Egypt and the Suez Canal. This way the Axis would have had an easier access to the Middle East countries and its oil reserves, in order to produce more war machinery and to sustain the Axis armies. Unfortunately for the Axis, the Italian army could not defeat the British troops, and even with the help of Germany, the Axis could not control this area.
