The English Parliament's Petition of Right refers to the letter of petition, asserting a right against an English king. At common law, in England the the king can not be sued in the king's court, thus it become a practice to be writing petition to the king when one is unfairly treated by the king or his servants. When a subject's property comes under the possession of king in the wrong manner, the subject usually petition the king's council for its restoration.
