The most likely answer is Squanto, although he was also known as Tisquanto and Tisquantum.
Squanto was a member of the Patuxet tribe in Southern New England. In 1614, he was kidnapped by English explorer Thomas Hunt. He was taken to Spain and sold into slavery, but he escaped and returned to North America in 1619. When he came back, he discovered that his whole tribe had been wiped out by an epidemic. He is considered the last of the Patuxet.
