The linear function f(x) passes through the points (0,1) and (2,7).

A few values from the exponential function g(x) are shown in the table.

x g(x)
−1 1.5
2 12
3 24
What is the positive difference in the y-intercept value of f(x) and g(x) ?

Answer:

2 is positive difference in the y-intercept value of f(x) and g(x).

Explanation:

The linear function f(x) passes through the points (0,1) and (2,7)

Using two point formula of line find function f(x)

f(x)-1=(7-1)/(2-0)(x-0)

f(x)=3x+1

For y-intercept, put x=0

f(x)=1

Ordered pair values are the exponential function g(x)

x : -1 2 3

g(x): 1.5 12 24

Using exponential function
y=ab^x

g(x)=3(2)^x

For y-intercept, put x=0

g(0)=3

We need to find the difference of y-intercept of f(x) and g(x)

Difference = g(0)-f(x) = 3 - 1 = 2

Thus, 2 is positive difference in the y-intercept value of f(x) and g(x).
