1) Nationalism is an idea and movement that promotes the interests of a particular nation (as in a group of people), especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's sovereignty (self-governance) over its homeland. ... It also encourages pride in national achievements and is closely linked to patriotism.

2) African nationalism attempted to transform the identity of Africans. Rather than seeing themselves as Zulu, Xhoasa, Sotho, etc, nationalist leaders wanted Africans to view themselves as South Africans. After World War I nationalists fostered moves for self-determination.

3) It gave other races the knowledge to know what is right and what is wrong. It was a defining moment in interracial empowerment. It gave the minorities a chance to fight for their freedom.
