The Republican Party was formed in 1854. One of the issues that led to the creation of the Republican Party was the Kansas-Nebraska Act. What was the Republican Party's stance on this issue?

The party was in opposition to the idea of allowing the Act to pass and opposition to the idea of allowing slavery in the new territories. A number of former Democrats, Whigs, and Free Soil members joined together as a founding group to form the Republican Party in response to the Act.
