Pneumonia Explanation Respiratory depression is a common adverse effect of morphine. If patient get a cold, this respiratory depression could cause retained secretion and put the patient at greater risk of pneumonia. The drug does not cause myocardial infarction or rental impairment. A common cold is not known to cause hypersensitvity to morphine.
