The following ionization energies were found for an unknown element:

- 1st Ionization Energy 9.32270 eV
- 2nd Ionization Energy 18.2114 eV
- 3rd Ionization Energy 153.89661 eV
- 4th Ionization Energy 217.71865 eV
What is a common ion for the unknown element above?

Answer:

Di positive ion.

Step-by-step explanation:

Ionization energy is the energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron from an isolated gaseous atom.

As per the data given, there is not much energy difference between first and second ionization energy.

Hence the atom will lose two electrons easily.

However as there is very high difference between second and third ionization energy so it will not lose third electron easily.

Hence the possibility of formation of dipositive ion is most for the given atom.

The common ion will have two positive charge.
