Hey buddy!
They give you the equation 2x + 3y = 36, when y = 6
So, the first thing that should come into your mind is replace 6 by y. As you can see, we have 3y in the equation, so we said we would replace the y with 6. So, it will 3(6). Got it? Good....
So now let's solve it then...
2x + 3y = 36
2x + 3(6) = 36
2x + 18 = 36
Add -18 to both sides
2x + 18 - 18 = 36 - 18
2x = 18
Then divide both sides by 2
2x/2 = 18/2
x = 9
Thus,
The value of x is 9.
---------------------------------------------------
If you want to double check your work, to make sure you got it. We gonna go back to the equation then we will replace y by 6 and x by 9. Then we should get 36.
Let's try it out....
2x + 3y = 36
2(9) + 3(6) = 36
18 + 18 = 36
36 = 36
So yes, we did right.
The value of x is 9
I hope this helps!
