One main reason why the colonists would have resented the "stern hand" of a royal governor is because they were being taxed without representation in Parliament, which many viewed as being tyrannical.

Answer:

It made them resent the governors and want to disobey the crown.

Step-by-step explanation:

The governors were people that were directly appointed by the King to control the colonies, they were the ones that were responsible enforce the laws that were imposed by the British Parliament. The governors were loyal to the crown which made them have a stern hand with the colonists, that did not agree with many of the British impositions, such as taxes and navigation acts. This made the governors become the center of the colonist's anger and resentment and many of them were targets of an attack on several rebellions.
