It occurs at the tension of the muscles. That is, the joint is static; there is no expansion of the muscle fibers and the limbs will not move. There is no change in the length of the muscle fibers themselves, and there is also no movement at the joints, but the muscle fibers still fire.

An isometric contraction occurs at the tension of a muscle contraction when the muscle remains static, without shortening or lengthening, but although it remains static generates tension. The muscle develops tension without shortening and there is no alteration in its external length or in the angle of the joint in which that muscle acts.
