ionizing radiation Ionizing radiation is that radiation that has enough energy to ionize atoms or molecules. For photons, that energy level is about 10 eV (equivalent to far ultraviolet with a 124 nanometer wavelength). Due to the photoelectric effect, an electron is ejected from an atom and break chemical bonds.
