the bar is 8 by 9
If you break it into 9 groups of 8, you break it 8 times
You have to break each of the 8 pieces on each of the 9 pieces 7 times
In total, you would break it 8×7 times, which is 56
You break the bar 56 times.

the answer is 71, because you don't need to break last piece of chocolate.
