Why did the tuskegee institute become involved in the mass production of hela cells? describe the depth of the institute's involvement. explain the inherent irony in the fact that the tuskegee hela production lab was operating at the same time that the infamous syphilis study was being conducted. what does the juxtaposition of these two projects reveal about race relations in the early 1950s?

The Tuskegee Institute is the one that is chosen by NFIP for the project because of Charles Bynum, director of 'Negro Activities' for the foundation. Bynum - a science teacher and civil rights activist who was the first black foundation executive in the country - wanted the center to be located at Tuskegee because it will provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding, training and many job opportunities for young black scientists."
The black scientists are using cells from a black woman to save the lives of the white people.
