Marcel is weeding a rectangular vegetable garden has an area of 599.5 square feet. If the garden is 22 feet wide, how long is the garden? Justify your procedure.

The garden is 27.25 feet long.

Area is just length x width, (A = l x w) so we just work backwards.

599.5 / 22 = 27.25

Area = 599.5 sq ft

Length = A ÷ W

Width = 22 ft

Divide the Area by Width to find out what the Length of the garden is.

599.5/22 = 27.25

To justify your answer, you can multiply 22 by 27.25.

22 × 27.25 = 599.5
