3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) commonly known as ecstasy. MDMA is both a hallucinogen and a stimulant, so it has many of the effects of either of those types of drugs. This drug is taken by some people for its recreational effects of empathy, euphoria and heightened sensations. When taken by mouth, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to take effect and lasts 3 to 6 hours. There is currently no accepted medical uses for MDMA. Some adverse side effects includes addiction, memory problems, teeth grinding, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, paranoia, and other effects. It was first made in 1912 and became a popular street drug in the 1980s. It is generally illegal in most countries.
