1. Create a proportion:
12/17=18/x
12x=306
x= $25.50
2. Let Casey’s age be c and his sister’s be s
c=2s-3
c=s+5
2s-3=s+5
s=8
c=13
Casey is 13 years old!

Weight of potatoes........Cost
12 lb ................................. $17
18 lb ................................. X
by cross multiplication we get
12 X = 17 × 18
12 X = 306
X = 306/12
X = $ 25.5
