Answer:

The gun represents the destructive power of technology. The monstrous weapon of destruction cannot be destroyed and will continue to kill anything that comes close to the surface of the planet. The weapon has not been programmed to discriminate between friends and foes. Any object that transgresses the air space of the city is the target of the weapon. In some ways, the gun represents the aggressive, impulsive nature of mankind. Much like Victor Frankenstein created a monster that led to his own moral and social destruction, people created a gun that grew monstrous. As a result, the destructive forces of war are the only remnants of humanity left on this desolate planet.
